The fourth edition of the IDF Diabetes Atlas will be released at the World Diabetes Congress in Montreal, Canada.The publication contains the latest figures on diabetes-related mortality and healthcare expenditures. It presents estimates of the prevalence of diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance for 216 countries and territories for the years 2010 and 2030.

With World Diabetes Day (WDD) around the corner, an impressive 127 monuments have confirmed they will light up in blue on November 14 as part of the WDD Monument Challenge. In France, eight more monuments have signed up, Slovakia have added seven more to a growing list, and in Spain three more confirmations have come in. Norway has joined the monument challenge with two illuminations in Tromso, while Slovenia has confirmed its first lighting in Ljubljana.

A shipment containing insulin, test strips, lancets and syringes has been dispatched to Mandaluyong, Philippines in the wake of the worst natural disaster to hit the country in 40 years. The emergency supplies were sent by Australia-based NGO Insulin for Life in collaboration with the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).

Delicata from Malta as President/Regional Chair for the next three years (2009-2012). Mr Joao Nabais from Portugal was elected President Elect/Chair Elect and will take over as President in 2012.
